Day Eleven

Days Like This

When the clouds become
second-hand smoke,
the sun it’s unfortunate infant
How am I expected to breathe
on days like this?
Lungs become two sets
of black ash trays
sitting next to breakfast
and the morning newspaper.
There’s nothing normal
about beginning the day
like this…
